Job Overview
Oakgrove School requires a Cover Supervisor to join the cover team at our Secondary Site. This position involves supervising classes when teachers are absent and delivering the work that teachers have set to minimise disruption to students' learning. Our Cover Supervisors also support the school library, 6th Form Study Centre, student services and after school clubs so other skill sets, such as customer services, are an advantage.
No previous teaching experience is necessary but a calm, confident and professional manner is essential. The successful applicant will also need to be adaptable, motivated and have the ability to use their initiative in the classroom. The core hours for this position are 8:15am - 3:15pm (32.5hrs pw). For an exceptional candidate who can successfully contribute to wider school responsibilities we would consider a finish time of 4:15pm (37 hours pw).
The successful candidate will be efficient and organised, have strong interpersonal skills, be able to use their own initiative and have proven experience of high-level administration. On occasion, this person may also be required to cover lessons however no previous teaching experience is required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
● Ensuring that students carry out curriculum tasks set by the teacher and assist students in understanding the nature of these tasks in order to minimise the effect of the teacher's absence upon the students' learning.
● Keep the learning environment secure and endeavour to leave classrooms as found.
● Attend and participate in meetings as required.
● To assist in other areas such as our internal exclusion room, 1st Call, Reception/student services and clubs as required.
● Promote positive values, attitudes and good student behaviour, dealing promptly with conflicts and incidents in line with our Behaviour Management policy and encourage students to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
● Established productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
● Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all students in the classroom.
● Encourage students to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all students in activities.
● Support the use of ICT and learning activities and develop students' competence and independence in its use.
● Using Microsoft Office programs and Google Drive to support the production of resources (training provided if required).
● Be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to reviews of systems/records as requested.
● Provide feedback to teachers following the cover of a lesson.
● Be prompt, on time and reliable to support the teaching staff and all students.
