Join to apply for the Senior Quantity Surveyor role at Costain Group PLC.
Costain has secured extensive work across the water sector to support the AMP8 investment cycle. The Commercial function is accountable for effective control of commercial risks, liabilities, exposures, and opportunities within all our trading relationships. The role involves managing all assigned commercial activities within the project environment and ensuring cost minimisation and value for money.
Responsibilities
 * Undertake efficient management and issuance of accurate, timely and compliant notices and correspondence.
 * Ensure contractual and commercial risks and opportunities are identified to the Contract Leader.
 * Prepare and agree applications for payment or assessment & preparation of payment certificates.
 * Maintain registers of variations, delay, extension times and claims.
 * Implement company commercial policies and procedures consistently.
 * Assist with preparation of monthly progress valuations and claims for work completed.
 * Interface with Customer’s commercial and project teams.
 * Produce pre‑Contract tender negotiations & reports where necessary.
 * Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts, and Contract Leader Reports.
 * Review value management and advise on risk management.
 * Prepare supply chain enquiries, negotiate, administer, and finalise / close out supply chain contracts.
 * Plan and implement change management and cost control.
 * Monitor and update supply chain procurement plan including benchmarking.
 * Maintain ongoing liaison with site team, supply chain and Customers’ representatives.
 * Provide contractual advice to the project / site team as and when appropriate.
 * Maintain awareness of the different construction contracts in current use.
 * Understand implications of health, safety and environmental regulations.
 * Ensure all health, safety and environmental risk situations are brought to the attention of Contract Leader / Project Manager.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
 * Significant postgraduate commercial experience in the construction industry with a demonstrable track record of achievement.
 * Demonstrable financial and commercial acumen.
 * Practical, logical and methodical working approach.
 * Extensive experience setting up and operating office management systems, including filing systems and document control.
 * Extensive experience drafting minute‑taking at contractual meetings and collating reports, payment certificates and financial statements.
 * Extensive experience drafting effective contractual correspondence and facilitating collaborative solutions.
 * Proven negotiating and team‑working skills with the ability to motivate and lead a team.
 * Strong analytical skills.
 * Demonstrable legal, contractual and construction knowledge.
 * Confidence and ability to assert influence.
Desirable
 * Previous commercial experience in the water sector.
 * A creative and innovative approach to problem‑solving.
 * Experience developing & implementing procurement and contract strategies.
Qualifications
 * Hold an RICS / CICES accredited degree.
 * Senior Quantity Surveyors will hold or be nearing completion of Full Membership with RICS / CIECS.
