Job Title: HVDC Operations Manager
Location: Cambuslang

Western Link HVDC is a key strategic node within the UK electricity infrastructure and is jointly owned between SPT and NGET Transmission Operators.
The HVDC Manager will be an integral part of the Transmission Network Operations management team and will have full accountability and responsibility for the Western Link.
The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the safe and efficient operation of SPT’s Western Link assets to maximise availability with particular focus around the areas of commercial and regulatory, planning and performance. SPT’s Western Link assets equates to around £460M of capital investment. This will be delivered via direct staff and a number of contracts and framework arrangements managed by the post holder.
What you’ll be doing
Full responsibility and accountability for contractual and financial governance of the Western Link
Ensure all enduring arrangements are in place and maintained with regards marine and converter requirements including contracts, licenses, crossing agreements, insurance arrangements, legal frameworks etc. to allow the safe, efficient and commercially effective running of the link thus delivering full requirements of the current and future Regulatory settlements This is crucial to protect SPT’s interests and warranty obligations and will have a reliance on supporting corporate departments but is essential for the benefit of achieving business targets
Work closely with the NGET Western Link HVDC team to share knowledge and experience from both ends of the link to drive real value and efficiencies from the link’s performance
Lead a group of professional engineers to deliver cost effective solutions within project/programme timescales, financial budget and within regulatory allowances
Ensure that all HSEQ policies are embedded within the Operation & Maintenance requirements and engineering solutions delivered
Take the lead with SPT Western Link Regulatory Reporting Requirements, ensuring consistency as require with NG TO.
Develop, implement and monitor a departmental scorecard to track engineering deliverables against business targets and make decisions in collaboration with others to maintain targets
Responsible for producing, delivering, seeking approval, ongoing monitoring and reporting of all CAPEX and OPEX (direct and indirect) requirements associated with the Western Link on an annual basis, regulatory period and 10 year business plan basis. This will include any asset replacement required based on expected asset life.
Identify, delineate and resolve Engineering problems using Engineering methodology where appropriate. Situations will arise where complex problems cannot be resolved by process and a creative and innovative approach will be required to resolve
Ensure compliance with all Engineering policies, standards and procedures
Management and ownership of risk control framework and formulation of risk management strategy taking responsibility and accountability for all actions to be delivered by the team
SPT responsible manager for Nuclear Incident Site Response Plan working closely with EDF at Hunterston Nuclear Station
Take a proactive approach to continuous improvement by proposing and implementing improvement initiatives that are not obvious to others and will address difficult situations
Effectively manage all planned and unplanned outages impacting link capacity or availability to ensure compliance with minimum availability of 97% at 100% capacity taking into account the maximum 1.5% planned and 1.5% unplanned durations within any given year as described in the Availability Guarantees of the EPC contract and as reported in CIGRE 591.
Represent SPT as required on the Joint Planning and Performance Meeting which is attended by representation from SPT and NGET Transmission Operators along with the Joint Venture teams
Plan, prepare, agree and deliver a robust and efficient Operations and Maintenance plans (short, medium and long term) to meet the full requirements of warranty obligations, policy requirements financial and regulatory requirements
Ensure an efficient and effective spares management process (strategic and consumables) is in place to assist in maximising availability of the link and minimising costs
Manage the contractors and direct staff to ensure a positive safety culture and single team approach thus ensuring all legislation, Company safety rules, policies and procedures are adhered to
Ensure all assets all asset information is fully recorded on the Corporate Systems with all records maintained and updated to meet Company policies and procedures
Manage stakeholders and interested parties proactively to achieve positive outcomes and desired outputs against an agreed set of measures and indicators
Take responsibility for ensuring the various specialised Safety Rule training courses (HVDC & Z6 Authorisation, Subsystem Training) are in place and updated as required including any technical refresher courses
Ensure existing and any required Safety Rule special procedures are maintained and updated as required
* Contribute to development of other Iberdrola HVDC link proposals, as applicable
