BakerHicks is hiring a Principal Structural Engineer to lead high-impact projects across Scotland. This is a senior leadership role for a Chartered Engineer ready to take ownership of project delivery, team development, and strategic growth.
You’ll manage a portfolio of multidisciplinary projects, mentor engineers and technicians, and play a key role in business development. From defence and custodial facilities to energy infrastructure, your work will shape the future of Scotland’s built environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead structural design and specification across steel, concrete, timber, and masonry.
* Manage project delivery including time, cost, quality, and resources.
* Conduct technical reviews and ensure compliance with British Standards, Eurocodes, and CDM regulations.
* Mentor junior engineers and oversee SER certification (if applicable).
* Contribute to bids, tenders, and client proposals.
* Engage in business development through client meetings and industry events.
What We’re Looking For
* Chartered Engineer (ICE or IStructE).
* Proven experience managing teams and delivering complex structural projects.
* Strong technical design and specification skills.
* Familiarity with structural software such as TEDDS, Tekla, and MasterSeries.
* SER Certification (or working towards it) – desirable.
* Eligibility for UK security clearance – desirable.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
