Role Purpose
The Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in refining and developing the aizle simulation model at Smart Data Foundry. Collaborating closely with a team of Data Scientists and Software Engineers, the role holder will contribute to the creation of both agent-based modelling, synthetic data and making it available as a SaaS product. This collaborative effort aims to enhance and extend the capabilities of the aizle simulation model within Smart Data Foundry, ensuring it meets the specific requirements of our clients.
Key Responsibilities
* Enhance and extend our agent-based model simulation to further improve our derived products.
* Extend, develop and maintain scalable and efficient software solutions that leverage cloud infrastructure, focusing on performance optimisation and resource management.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and define objectives of ongoing and new data science innovation projects, supported by senior colleagues where necessary.
* Communicate project updates, outcomes and learning through the best channel and at the appropriate level of detail for the audience.
* Collaborate with and peer review team members constructively, in a spirit of cooperation and collegiality.
* Take responsibility for continuous learning and development
Essential Know-How
* Proven experience as a Software Engineer or similar role, with a strong portfolio of projects demonstrating expertise in Python.
* In-depth knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices.
* Solid experience in writing test suites and conducting code reviews to ensure software quality.
* Knowledge of version control systems (e.g. Git) for collaborative working.
* Experience developing SaaS solutions on cloud platforms, preferably AWS (Amazon Web Services), including services like EC2, Lambda, S3, and RDS.
* Strong verbal, written and communication skills, comfortable in dealing with a wide range of stakeholders with varying data science knowledge.
* Demonstrable ability to learn and use new techniques and technology as needed and applying them to push forward the Smart Data Foundry data innovation product offering.
* Takes personal ownership and accountability for delivering high quality work in line with project and product requirements and uses good judgement in escalating to senior colleagues when over-running, facing unanticipated challenges, or redefining objectives.
Desirable Know-How
* Experience with multiprocessing, multithreading, and designing solutions that efficiently scale and utilize available resources, preferably in a language other than Python (e.g. C++, Java, Go, Rust etc.).
* Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
* Perform data validation and analysis on generated data.
* Experience in Financial Data
* Skills in profiling and optimizing Python code for performance
* Experience working in the Cloud, preferably AWS but not essential
Location
This role is based in our office in the Bayes Centre in Edinburgh therefore candidates must be within commutable distance or willing to relocate.
