Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Epilepsy and EEG
Overview
12 months (Fixed Term 1 year) - Part time - 30 hours per week. This clinical research fellowship is intended to allow an experienced neurology/neurophysiology trainee to obtain experience, both academically and clinically, over a one-year period in Epilepsy and EEG. The post aims to provide experience to enable the fellow to pursue consultant positions with an academic interest in Epilepsy and/or EEG.
Responsibilities
* Conduct research into epilepsy and publish papers in peer‑reviewed journals. Activities may include clinical studies and investigations using scalp and intracranial EEG recordings.
* Attend one national/international meeting and present abstracts to enhance the department’s international reputation.
* Assess, investigate, and treat patients with epilepsy, including experience with prolonged Video EEG recording techniques.
* Participate in a multidisciplinary epilepsy surgery meeting with neurophysiologists, neuroradiologists, neurologists, psychologists, psychiatrists and specialist nurses.
* Identify and include patients to clinical research studies aligned with the national portfolio and registered with CRN, following Research Ethics Committee protocols and Good Clinical Practice.
* Collect and analyse research data and write manuscripts for scientific publications; lead or contribute to audits and service evaluation; contribute to academic activities alongside clinical duties.
* Report outpatient adult and paediatric EEGs.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Taking clinical history and reporting inpatient presurgical or diagnostic scalp video-EEG telemetry.
* Taking clinical history and reporting home video telemetry.
* Attending and presenting cases at the weekly multidisciplinary team epilepsy surgery meeting.
* Attending complex epilepsy or other specialist epilepsy clinics.
* Developing individual research interests in collaboration with the department.
* Any other duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the supervisor.

Education and Qualifications
* Eligible for registration with the GMC
* MB BS (or equivalent)
* MD or equivalent
Desirable
* PhD
* CCT
Knowledge and Experience
* Essential: Substantial experience in Neurology; close to completion of CCT
* Desirable: Exposure to Electroencephalography or Epilepsy; commitment to a career in Neurology or Neurophysiology
Skills and Competencies
* Essential: Knowledge and experience in elective and emergency neurology; ability to prioritise clinical need; ability to organise own workload; evidence of participation in audit/research; ability to work in multi-professional teams; understanding of clinical risk management
* Desirable: Previous publications/presentations
Other Information
Contract: Fixed term, 12 months. Working pattern: Part-time. Salary: £73,992 per year pro rata plus London Weighting. Location: Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill, London SE5 9RS.
