Job Summary

As Project Support Officer, you will be expected to work on a number of projects within the Radiotherapy SSCN portfolio and support Trusts in the North West to deliver the NHS England Radiotherapy Service Specification. You should be comfortable working as part of a team, being directed by others, and using your own initiative to support change projects across the North West. The post-holder should be able to manage projects and stakeholder relationships efficiently and proactively.

The role offers an excellent opportunity to develop project and service improvement skills while engaging fully with the SSCN programme. A supportive Project Manager will help broaden your experience in organisational development, project work, and service transformation. There are progression opportunities for the post-holder.

Main Duties

The Project Support Officer will provide efficient administrative support to facilitate and monitor project progress across the Radiotherapy SSCN. Duties include resolving day‑to‑day administrative problems, organising meetings and workshops, managing correspondence, maintaining electronic files, taking minutes, managing stationery supplies, and raising purchase orders.

The role also involves supporting a range of projects and programmes across the SSCN, acting as an administrative assistant to the SSCN team, supporting management and reporting, and undertaking data collection and analysis for performance monitoring.

Job Description – Responsibilities

Physical and Financial Resources: Monitor resource usage within the SSCN Team, ensure effective use of financial resources, act as requisitioner, and adhere to procurement procedures.

Meeting & Documentation: Develop and distribute agendas, board papers, minutes, action logs, and project governance documents. Produce letters, reports, and presentations with technical, medical, or financial content.

Administrative Assistant: Support the Radiotherapy SSCN with meetings, room bookings, diary management, and cross‑network relationships.

Programme Management Support: Deliver relevant projects, undertake short‑ and long‑term planning, manage changing demands, and maintain project documentation (logs, risk registers, action logs, board papers, reports).

Communication and Leadership: Serve as point of contact for the SSCN, assist the Programme Manager in presenting complex information, support report development, and influence stakeholders.

Planning and Organising: Coordinate submission to board meetings, compile stakeholder documents, maintain risk/issue registers, and manage interdependencies.

Research & Data: Develop audit and monitoring information, manage risks and issue events, and support internal and external inter‑dependencies.

Freedom to Act: Work autonomously, encourage decisive decision‑making, engage with wider organisational context, and follow policies.

Other Duties: Maintain confidentiality, adhere to policies, keep a flexible approach, and undertake duties consistent with the post.


Person Specification – Essential

* oLevel 4 qualification (e.g. higher apprenticeship / NWQ / L4 diploma / award / certificate)
* Willingness to undertake additional training and qualifications for the role as required
* Experience in working within a project management office/transformation team supporting a portfolio of projects
* Experience of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines
* Experience of writing complex reports for wide audiences
* Experience of planning and managing using structured project management methodology
* Experience of working collaboratively to deliver successful outcomes
* Highly self‑motivated with high work standards
* Previous NHS experience, particularly cross‑organisational boundaries
* Ability to set own priorities and work under own initiative
* Project planning and control skills using formal tools
* Good oral, written, presentation, and negotiation skills
* Well‑developed time management skills
* Good negotiating and influencing skills
* Ability to record and report accurate minutes
* Ability to organise multiple diaries with minimal intervention
* Extensive IT knowledge, especially Excel and PowerPoint
* Knowledge of risk and issue management processes
* Ability to demonstrate NHS organisational values and behaviours
* Commitment to improving services for staff and patients
* Excellent communicator with strong negotiation and facilitation skills


Person Specification – Desirable

* Relevant degree level qualification plus postgraduate qualification, or equivalent experience
* Improvement methodology qualifications
* Demonstrable Service Improvement experience
* Training in utilising improvement techniques
* Good understanding of improvement techniques
* Knowledge of clinical processes and NHS administration procedures
* Understanding of NHS structure and governance
* Knowledge and experience of developing and implementing policies and procedures
