Job Title: Water Hygiene Engineer
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Water Hygiene Engineer to join a growing team, delivering Legionella control, monitoring, and remedial services across a varied client base.
This role is essential in ensuring compliance with ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019, supporting clients in maintaining safe and compliant water systems. You will work across commercial, industrial, and residential sites, providing both technical expertise and hands-on service delivery.
The Role
As a Water Hygiene Engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out routine monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of water systems, as well as supporting remedial works and compliance programmes.
This is a field-based role requiring a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can work independently, manage multiple sites, and maintain high standards of service delivery. You will also play a key role in identifying risks, advising clients, and ensuring accurate compliance documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Legionella Control & Compliance
* Carry out Legionella control regimes and routine site inspections
* Conduct temperature monitoring, water sampling, and testing
* Flush little-used outlets to minimise stagnation risks
* Ensure all works are compliant with ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019
* Maintain accurate records for compliance and audit purposes
Water Hygiene Services
* Perform tank cleaning, disinfection, and descaling works
* Carry out chlorination of domestic and commercial water systems
* Service and maintain Thermostatic Mixing Valves (TMVs)
* Undertake pipework disinfection and general system maintenance
Client Liaison & Support
* Provide on-site technical advice and recommendations
* Support clients with understanding and maintaining compliance
* Deliver basic training and guidance on Legionella best practices
* Work closely with internal teams to support overall service delivery
Health & Safety
* Adhere to all health & safety policies and safe working procedures
* Identify and report hazards or risks on-site
* Ensure correct use of PPE and compliance with safety standards
Requirements
Essential
* Experience within water hygiene, Legionella control, or a related field
* Good knowledge of ACoP L8, HSG274, and BS 8580-1:2019
* Ability to work independently and manage workload across multiple sites
* Full UK driving licence
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Desirable
* City & Guilds or equivalent in Legionella Risk Assessment
* Plumbing background or relevant qualifications
* Experience with fire safety-related water systems
* Knowledge of water treatment processes (e.g. closed systems, dosing)
* Understanding of fire suppression or water-fed safety systems
