Community Mental Health Nurse - East Community

About the role

The East Adult Community Psychiatric Service has an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse with mental health experience to join their community team. East Sector provides an assessment and treatment service for tāngata whaiora (consumers) experiencing mental illnesses and works closely with their whānau (family) - both in the community and alongside inpatient services.

About You

We are looking for a professional and highly motivated nurse to join our team. To be successful in our team you will need to display a positive attitude and enthusiasm for this area of work, you will enjoy being part of a committed and diverse multi-disciplinary team, you will work in collaboration with a group of professionals that recognises the importance of providing quality care and services to their patients, friends and whānau. Interacting with a variety of stakeholders, you will have an ability to effectively manage and prioritise a caseload in a case management position.

* You will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and in collaboration with our tāngata whaiora and their family/whanau, primary care, community supports and our inpatient teams.
* It is essential that you have the ability to think on your feet, triage and prioritise your tāngata whaiora’s needs appropriately, and in a timely manner.
* You will case manage a caseload of tāngata whaiora who you will proactively engage with and support to engage with their treatment and other holistic supports.
* Highly developed risk assessment is important as is your ability to develop effective rapport with people who may be mentally unwell or distressed.
* Assessment, development of treatment plans and liaising with whanau and other carers, NGOs, police, probation and other services is all part of the Community Mental Health Nurse role.

Skills and experience

In order to be successful in this role, the following is required:

* Registered or Enrolled with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope
* Ideally, but not essential, 2+ years’ experience working within any area of mental health
* Registered or Enrolled Nurse
* Have a full New Zealand driver’s license
* Knowledge of and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
* Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building
* Thrives in a fast-paced environment in a varied role
