Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Trust as a Lead Nurse in Dermatology based at St Helens Hospital. The post-holder will provide expert leadership and management within a multi-disciplinary team and provide highly advanced specialist/clinical nursing expertise for dermatology patients.

The post holder will advise primary and secondary care clinicians about setting up, implementation, delivery and evaluation of patient care utilising evidence-based practice, and will provide a service in accordance with national, regional and local guidance, standards and protocols to ensure positive patient outcomes. They will contribute to senior management and governance frameworks within the care group and be line manager to band 7 and band 6 nurse specialists/nurse practitioners. A job plan will be agreed and reviewed annually, including appropriate clinical supervision. The JD & PS are currently under AfC review and are subject to change. Interview Date is To Be Confirmed.


Main duties

* The post-holder will provide expert leadership and management within a multi-disciplinary team and provide highly advanced specialist/clinical nursing expertise for dermatology patients.
* The post holder will advise primary and secondary care clinicians about setting up, implementation, delivery and evaluation of patient care utilising evidence-based practice, and will provide a service in accordance with national, regional and local guidance, standards and protocols and policies to ensure the most positive outcome for the patients are achieved.
* The post-holder will contribute to senior management and governance frameworks within the care group and be line manager to band 7 and band 6 nurse specialists/nurse practitioners.
* The post holder will be responsible for the service budget in conjunction with Directorate Manager and ADM. They will ensure that KPI data is collected and submitted to commissioners and will be the first point of contact for commissioner’s queries.
* The post holder will abide by legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice and promote and maintain standards of professional practice in accordance with The Nursing and Midwifery Councils (NMC) Code and Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.

Job responsibilities

* CLINICAL LEADERSHIP & RESPONSIBILITIES: Work autonomously, manage a caseload within the specialty, and lead a multidisciplinary team in delivering personalised direct patient care. Assess and recognise emergencies, interpret information and lead others to act. Act as an advocate for patients and ensure high quality care and patient experience, respecting diverse beliefs. Lead nurse-led clinics, prescribe where appropriate, and coordinate services across hospital and community settings.
* LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise staff, act as line manager to band 7/6 nurse specialists, coordinate workload, manage equipment and budgets, contribute to business planning, and monitor KPIs/CQUINs.
* QUALITY: Facilitate high-quality, cost-effective specialist services; lead developments; participate in governance and multi-professional meetings; monitor standards of care and drive corrective actions.
* TEACHING & TRAINING: Develop teaching and education programmes, support self-management in patients, supervise students and new starters, and contribute to curriculum development and professional development of staff.
* RESEARCH & AUDIT: Monitor standards, lead benchmarking, support evidence-based practice, lead SUIs/PSIs investigations, contribute to governance, and promote nursing research with dissemination of findings.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential: NMC registration Part 1; speciality-related courses; degree level; teaching/coaching/mentoring qualification; Leadership module; Independent Non-Medical Prescriber. Desirable: Masters level.

Knowledge & Experience: Essential — substantial post-registration experience, experience at band 7, developing clinical pathways/protocols, audit and research, multidisciplinary working. Skills: excellent communication, change management, teaching, teamwork, prioritisation, advanced nursing skills, IT; Desirable — influence at Board level.
