Role Overview
Our Water Quality & Environment Team is looking for a Senior Ecologist. You will provide ecological leadership and advice, helping us to protect and enhance biodiversity through our projects and partnerships. You will also act as an ambassador, engaging stakeholders and the community in our ecological initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Support capital design and operational teams to identify ecological risks and opportunities early in project planning.
* Develop cost-effective strategies to mitigate environmental harm.
* Ensure compliance with licenses and regulations concerning species and habitats.
* Oversee external reports and promote learning from ecological activities.
* Create standards, guidance, and training for biodiversity protection.
* Lead ecological surveys and manage contracts.
* Drive continuous improvement and ensure safety standards.
* Respond to ecological incidents with technical expertise.
* Build relationships with NGOs, regulators, and stakeholders for habitat and species gains.
* Participate in research and innovative ecological projects.
* Provide standby support outside normal hours.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should have a strong understanding of species and habitat conservation, relevant legislation, and a degree in ecology or related fields. Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain, ecological surveys, impact assessments, and licenses for protected species is essential. Excellent communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft and GIS, and leadership experience are required. Membership or Chartership in a relevant professional body is recommended.
