About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team, playing a pivotal role in delivering a high-quality learner experience. From the initial application and interview stages through to progression into further or higher education, training, or employment, the post holder will be instrumental in fostering a positive and supportive environment that promotes the physical and mental well-being of all students.

A core responsibility of this role includes increasing student engagement across the campus by leading a dynamic programme of extracurricular and enrichment activities. Collaborating effectively with students and staff, the successful candidate will design, manage, and oversee opportunities that encourage personal development, enhance the student journey, and cultivate a strong sense of community.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of work in a similar role to support or mentor young people aged 14-25. They will hold a minimum Level 2 qualification in English and Maths and possess, or be willing to obtain within three months, current Level 2 Safeguarding and Prevent training. They will ideally hold a relevant qualification such as in Youth Work, Sports/Recreation, or Advice and Guidance, and be experienced in supporting or mentoring young people aged 14–25, as well as adults. A strong understanding of safeguarding, prevent duties, and referral processes is essential, along with experience in delivering workshops or training, supervising learners, and providing information, advice, guidance, and welfare support.

Responsibilities

Post-holders will work in the social spaces on campus. Post-holders will actively work with learners and will not be primarily office or desk based. • Will plan, offer and support enrichment and personal development activities on the campus. • Will undertake activities within the social space and across campus to support personal development activities. • Will ensure that learners behave appropriately within the social space and encourage positive behaviour and attitudes amongst our learners. • Will support learners with running community, charity and social events. • Will work with the wider Student Experience team and other staff on campus to encourage and promote learner voice and engagement with the CCSU. • Work with the Student Experience Manager to run Fresher’s Fairs, Careers events and other campus wide activities. • Will plan and offer learner clubs based on learner interests and needs. • Will actively promote and support high expectations amongst learners and actively promote the support and activities offered by the service to learners on campus. • Will support SPMs and CAMs to provide ‘positive intervention’ and supporting the learner with re-engagement. • Work with the Engagement and Progression Officers to maintain the appearance, and productive learning and working environment of the social spaces. • Will provide cover in the Learning Centre when required and help to further improve the student experience in these spaces. • Work with other Study Support Officers, Student Experience Managers to develop workshops, learning content and online activities to support the personal development and learning skills of learners. • Work with tutors and lecturing staff to identify students in need of support, agree the support required with teaching staff and encourage the learner to take up support opportunities. • Work with the Engagement and Progression Officers (EPOs) when needed to provide pastoral support and positive intervention for learners to be able to overcome barriers to engage with their educational studies and progress on to their educational studies and progress onto their next steps. This will include close working with the EPOs and safeguarding point of contact (SPOC) for any safeguarding concerns. • There will be a requirement to support college events such as Open Evenings, taster days etc. where appropriate. • This role may require travel to other sites and working with staff members across the group. • Follow a programme of planned staff development as identified through the TCCG Performance Management System. • Be willing to undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Director of Student Experience or other member of the college management team.
