Specialist Doctor in Community Paediatrics

The Community Paediatric Neurodevelopmental Service is seeking 1 part-time Specialist Community Paediatrician.

The ideal applicant will have experience of all aspects of community paediatrics including child development, ASD, ADHD, neuro disability, Children Looked After, children in need and children with special educational needs.

You will have an ability to work independently, but within a supportive team. Multiagency and multidisciplinary working is expected and encouraged.

An area of special interest to complement those already available in the Department would be welcomed and can be discussed.

You will have ready access to senior opinion when required. Additional training will be made available for any areas a successful candidate has less experience of. Career progression will be supported and encouraged via a named supervisor, mentoring, annual appraisal and job planning.

There are no on-call or acute responsibilities attached to this post. However, there are opportunities to interact with acute colleagues based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, and with colleagues in South Cumbria, thus ensuring an integrated approach to child health. We have good links with our therapy colleagues, integrated children\'s community nursing team (via UHMB) and our colleagues in School-nursing and Health visiting (via Virgin Care) and Education.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at time of appointment
* Medical Degree from a recognised university
* Training in General Paediatrics with community special interest or additional experience at middle grade level or above
* Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist grade generic capabilities framework.
* Level 2 Child Protection Training
* Level 3 Child Protection Training
* Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health (or equivalent) or Diploma in Child Health


Experience

* Completed a minimum of 12 years\' medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and / or closed SAS grades.
* Equivalent years\' experience in relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
* Broad experience of community paediatric problems including child development, ASD, ADHD, Neurodisability, Children in Care, medical advice for special educational needs and child protection
* Experience in other areas relevant to Community Child Health e.g. General Practice, Child Mental Health, Public Health, Paediatric Neurology, Paediatric Neurodisability

Patient Safety and Quality Improvement

* Takes prompt action where there is an issue with the safety or quality of patient care, raises and escalates concerns through clinical governance systems where necessary.
* Collaborates with MDT and interprofessional teams to manage risks and issues across organisations and settings
* Evaluates and audits own and others clinical practice and acts on findings.


Leadership & Teamworking

* Awareness of leadership responsibilities as a clinician and demonstrates appropriate leadership behaviour
