Building Inspector\nPay Rate: £55 per hour PAYE | £70 Umbrella rate (inside IR35)\n 6-Month Temporary Contract | Berkshire-Based Local Authority\n\n We’re currently working with a Berkshire-based Local Authority seeking an experienced Building Inspector to join their Building Control team on a 6-month temporary contract.\n This role requires a confident professional who can work independently, manage their own caseload, and provide expert advice across a range of regulatory and technical areas. You’ll need to be proactive, responsive, and capable of dealing with everything from routine site inspections to dangerous structures and Building Act enforcement.\n\n Key Responsibilities:\n\nAssess and check Building Regulations applications.\nConduct site inspections, maintaining accurate and detailed records.\nAssist with dangerous structures during and outside of normal working hours.\nValidate and raise fees in line with submitted applications.\nDraft formal correspondence for contraventions, court statements, and attend legal proceedings where required.\nOversee demolition works in line with Building Act 1984 and Council policy.\nManage aged applications and issue ‘plans of no effect’ where appropriate.\nInspect and correspond on applications for Building Regulation relaxations/dispensations.\nProvide input on means of escape/fire safety provisions.\nMake recommendations for application approvals or rejections under delegated powers.Person Specification:\n\nRegistered or working towards Class 2/3 BSR registration.\nDemonstrable Local Authority Building Control experience.\nSound understanding of Building Regulations, the Building Safety Act, and Health & Safety legislation.\nConfident managing individual and team workloads to meet statutory deadlines.\nAbility to provide technical guidance to stakeholders, maintain CPD, and uphold regulatory standards.\nFull UK driving licence required.If interested please get in touch and ask for James on (phone number removed) or via email at (url removed)
