Raw Materials Technical Assistant
Charlie Bigham's | B-Corp is looking for a Raw Materials Technical Assistant to ensure that raw materials and packaging delivered to site meet acceptable quality standards and specifications. The role builds effective working relationships, acts as the first escalation point for suppliers and onsite teams, and ensures documentation and compliance with internal processes.
Responsibilities
* Assist in decision‑making regarding raw material and packaging acceptance/rejection.
* Assess quality and suitability of raw materials/packaging.
* Conduct goods‑in inspections, storage checks, and routine inspections throughout the production process.
* Perform spot checks and investigate reported issues.
* Report raw material/packaging issues to relevant teams and management, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented.
* Prevent out‑of‑specification materials from proceeding in production unless otherwise agreed.
* Follow hold and reject procedures for non‑conforming stock.
* Communicate with suppliers regarding non‑conforming stock and send non‑conformance reports in a timely manner.
* Maintain records of held/rejected items and liaise with supply chain to manage returns.
* Carry out micro‑sampling on raw materials against the schedule and log samples into the system.
* Assist in RM risk assessment and maintain the RM sampling schedule.
* Manage existing RM key cards and create new ones for any new raw materials/packaging.
* Ensure supplier concessions are actioned and communicated.
* Develop relationships with suppliers, providing timely feedback on performance.
* Investigate and report internal rejections flagged by production teams.
* Flag unsatisfactory non‑conformance closures to relevant persons.
* Track and trend supplier non‑conformances to drive improvement.
* Engage with operations teams on raw material/packaging challenges and provide feedback.
* Complete daily walks within production and logistics to ensure storage areas are audit‑ready.
* Lead customer complaint investigations and internal foreign body investigations related to raw materials/packaging.
* Follow up with suppliers on communications.
* Carry out traceability checks when required.
* Assist in maintaining GMP standards.
* Participate in traceability and mass balance audits, ensuring relevant information is available within required timescales.
* Support technical team with general tasks as required.
* Lead and support improvement projects.
* Assist in preparation for BRC and third‑party audits.
* Work within the company’s rules and policies, introducing procedures where appropriate.
* Adhere to the health and safety policy, ensuring personal safety of staff at all times.
* Participate in overall management of the business, including cross‑functional projects.
