About The Payroll Supervisor Role

In our Steyning office, we are seeking an ambitious and experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead our payroll team and support our growing client base.
As Payroll Supervisor, you will support the Payroll Team Manager and oversee the delivery of payroll services for multiple clients across various sectors. You will manage a small team, ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, and maintain high standards of accuracy and client service. You will also lead one-off projects including onboarding new clients, acquisitions and specialist questions.
Key Responsibilities Of a Payroll Supervisor
* Manage the end-to-end payroll process for a small portfolio of clients, including weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls
* Review and approve payrolls prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance
* Act as the main point of contact for payroll queries from your portfolio, providing expert advice and support
* Support the team with technical training and complex payroll queries as they arise
* Ensure timely submission of RTI returns, pension contributions, and year-end reporting (P60s, P11Ds)
* Keep up to date with changes in payroll legislation and ensure the team is informed and compliant
* Facilitate onboarding of new clients and setting up payroll systems
* Liaise with HMRC and pension providers as required
* Support the Payroll Team Manager with internal reporting, process improvements, onboarding of new projects / acquisitions
About You
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a payroll role, ideally within an accountancy or bureau environment
* CIPP qualifications (or working towards) is desirable
* Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including auto-enrolment, statutory payments, and UK payrolls with overseas employers
* Ideally experienced using IRIS Payroll Professional or the ability to learn new payroll software quickly
* Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
* Ability to work well under pressure with client deadlines
* Strong communication skills and a client-focused approach
* Supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
* Ambitious, driven and eager to grow with the team and the company
