An Exciting Opportunity to join Swindon Academy; the most improved school in Swindon

Role: Learning Support Assistant

Location: Swindon

Salary: £20,127 per annum

Contract type: 33.75 hours a week, term time only

Swindon Academy are looking for an ambitious and hard-working individual to join a busy team within primary phase. The purpose of the role is to work in partnership with class teachers to support learning in line with the national curriculum, codes of practice and academy policies and procedures. You will also provide small group interventions using specific programmes as directed.

The main duties will involve:

1. To work under the guidance of the class teacher to support teaching and learning in the classroom
2. To provide specific support to the children and the school through the provision of assistance to teachers and support staff in the practical organisation of interventions
3. To promote the inclusion of all pupils ensuring they have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
4. Establish and maintain constructive relationships with parents and carers
5. To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school
6. Implement planned learning activities/teaching programmes as agreed with the teacher, adjusting activities according to students’ needs and responses as appropriate
7. Understand specific learning needs and provide differentiated support to students individually and within a group
8. Support pupils with activities which develop literacy and numeracy skills
9. Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with academy policies for culture for learning
10. Monitor and record pupil responses and learning achievements, resolving all but the most complex problems independently

Our ideal candidate will have:

11. excellent communication skills and be able to build good relationships with young people and adults
12. an ability to deal with students and staff so that they feel they have been dealt with consistently and fairly
13. an ability to convey authority and earn students respect, with the ability to make good decisions really fast.
14. the ability to show initiative whilst knowing when to take advice
15. good judgement over matters of confidentiality and integrity in dealing with sensitive information about students
16. strong IT skills with the ability to positively respond to training in the use of school IT packages.

Other requirements:

17. educated to A Level or Level 3 Teaching Assistant
18. sound literacy and numeracy, GCSE in English and Maths at Grade C or above
19. some previous experience of working with young people is desirable
20. some understanding of how students learn or teaching experience is desirable
