We’re working with a friendly, well-regarded secondary school in Shrewsbury looking for a female PE teacher to step into a maternity cover from May. It’s the kind of place where people genuinely look out for one another, staff and pupils alike, and that positive energy shows in day-to-day school life.
PE plays a big part here. Lessons are active, inclusive, and built around helping students grow in confidence, resilience, and enjoyment of sport. Whether it’s team games, fitness, or trying something completely new, pupils are encouraged to get stuck in, push themselves, and celebrate progress along the way, not just the final result.
You’ll be joining a close-knit team who care about doing a great job without losing that sense of balance. Relationships matter just as much as results, and there’s a shared focus on creating a supportive, engaging environment for everyone. The curriculum is thoughtfully planned, facilities are well kept, and there’s a real emphasis on participation and wellbeing.
There’s plenty going on beyond the classroom too. The school runs a range of extracurricular activities, and staff are encouraged to bring their own ideas and interests into the mix. Pupils are motivated, behaviour is well managed, and the atmosphere across the school is calm, respectful, and welcoming.
Pastoral care is a real strength. Clear routines and consistent expectations help pupils feel secure, while staff work closely together to make sure wellbeing and learning go hand in hand.
This role could be a great fit if you:
* Are a qualified female PE teacher, or an ECT looking to build confidence and experience
* Enjoy delivering engaging, inclusive lessons that get everyone involved
* Value teamwork, participation, and building pupils’ confidence
* Want to be part of a supportive, down-to-earth school community
It’s a lovely opportunity to step into a well-supported role where you can focus on what matters most, inspiring pupils, building strong relationships, and making a real difference from day one.
