The Improvement and Safety Manager provides expert advice and support across various clinical governance functions at CSH Surrey, including incident management and investigation, clinical audit, quality improvement, clinical effectiveness, complaints, and risk management, to ensure safe and effective patient services.
The manager is also responsible for leading a programme that promotes a culture of openness and shared learning from both positive and adverse events.
Band 6 Salary: starting from £40,617 to £48,778 per annum pro rata, including a 5% HCAS (based on the 2025/26 pay scale).
*Please note that depending on your start date, your pay may initially reflect the 2024/25 pay scale: starting from £39,205 to £47,084 per annum pro rata, including the 5% HCAS. Backdated pay will be processed once the new pay scale is in effect.
Main Duties
The post holder will work across all aspects of clinical governance and quality improvement, supporting:
* Ensuring incidents are reported, investigated, and that learning is shared across directorates to improve patient care.
* Providing advice on external accreditation, clinical guidelines, SOPs, NICE guidance, and quality alerts.
* Managing communication systems for patient safety and incident information across the directorate.
* Developing systems for tracking investigations, Duty of Candour cases, guidelines, and improvement projects, and producing reports for governance meetings.
The role requires excellent communication and analytical skills to manage daily patient safety challenges.

Qualifications
* Degree or relevant professional qualification.
* Additional qualification in statistical analysis, quality improvement, risk management, or related fields.
* Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development.
* Clinical background.
Knowledge and Skills
* Understanding of the NHSE Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.
* Knowledge of risk, investigation, and mitigation in clinical governance.
* Familiarity with quality improvement, audit systems, and incident management.
* Ability to use data for clinical quality improvement.
* Strong interpersonal, communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
* Data analysis and interpretation skills.
* Knowledge of Data Protection, FOI Act, Caldicott Principles, and Duty of Candour.
* Advanced IT skills in Word and Excel.
* Understanding of NHS Quality Improvement, Safety agenda, and CQC regulations.
Experience
* Experience in clinical governance, patient safety, or quality improvement in healthcare.
* Experience designing reporting tools, process mapping, and project management.
* Experience managing incidents and developing surveys.
* Knowledge of process mapping and quality tools.
* Proven ability to produce reports, deliver presentations, and conduct training.
* Experience translating policy into action, developing policies, and evaluating services.
