Buyer – Sourcing Electronic Components – South East Wales

This leading, globally recognised electronics manufacturing business is seeking to strengthen its procurement team within a high-reliability environment. Supporting sectors such as aerospace, defence, industrial and healthcare technology, the company delivers complex electronic solutions through advanced EMS capability, PCB technologies, and full lifecycle product support. With continued investment and growth across its UK and European operations, this is an opportunity to join a quality-driven, engineering-led business offering long-term career development.

In this procurement role you will take ownership of supplier relationships, negotiations, and overall supply chain performance. You’ll play a key part in keeping operations running smoothly—ensuring materials and services are delivered on time, to the right quality, and at the best possible cost—while supporting both ongoing production and new programme activity in a fast-paced, collaborative manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Take ownership of supplier relationships, including sourcing, selection, and commercial negotiations for materials and services, ensuring procurement is delivered in the most cost-effective, timely, and efficient way to meet programme requirements
* Monitor, analyse, and negotiate supplier pricing, providing clear reporting on cost movements and opportunities
* Conduct regular market and commodity analysis to benchmark pricing, identify trends, and drive cost-saving initiatives
* Anticipate market changes impacting availability, lead times, and pricing of materials and services
* Identify and onboard alternative suppliers and materials in collaboration with technical teams, delivering both commercial and technical advantage
* Ensure purchasing activity aligns with current demand, supplier lead times, and production schedules, proactively communicating any risks or changes to stakeholders
* Identify supply chain risks or inefficiencies and recommend practical improvements
* Manage supplier quality issues, including returns, rejections, and credit recoveries
* Control exposure to minimum order quantities (MOQs), pricing fluctuations, and supply risk, ensuring appropriate approvals are in place
* Work closely with cross-functional teams to support forecasting, planning, and delivery against demand and quality expectations
* Ensure compliance with company policies, codes of conduct, and health & safety standards
* Manage purchasing administration, reporting, and documentation accurately
* Negotiate and optimise payment terms to support cash flow and commercial performance
* Maintain awareness of international trade, import processes, and associated regulatory considerations
* Drive continuous improvement across procurement and supply chain activities
* Actively manage inventory levels, minimising excess stock and associated costs

Requirements

* Able to perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
* Strong understanding of manufacturing environments, processes, and products
* Flexible, solutions-focused approach with a clear commitment to meeting customer needs
* Confident IT user with the ability to work across systems and data
* Professional, driven, and commercially minded, with a high level of integrity and a proactive mindset
* Minimum of 2 A Levels, HNC, CIPS Diploma, or equivalent qualification
* At least 3 years’ purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment (essential)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
* Takes full ownership and accountability for their work
* High attention to detail with strong numerical and analytical capability
* Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and manage priorities
* Proactive approach, anticipating challenges rather than reacting to them
* Experience working both independently and within a collaborative, team-driven environment
* Basic understanding of electronic components and electronic manufacturing processes
* Working towards or holding CIPS membership would be advantageous
