Skilled Careers is proud to be working exclusively with a well-established and ambitious main contractor operating across multiple sectors, this business is currently hiring for a Business Development Manager who can help drive their continued growth in key regions across the South East.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced and connected Business Development professional with a background in traditional contracting (Tier 1 or Tier 2 – ideally Tier 2), who can hit the ground running and bring real value to a highly respected business.
The Company
Our client is a respected and forward-thinking construction company delivering high-quality projects across the education, commercial, healthcare, and wider public/private sectors. With a solid reputation and strong leadership team, they are now looking to strengthen their strategic sales function to help build a sustainable project pipeline aligned with their long-term goals.
The Role
As Business Development Manager, you will play a central role in generating and securing new business opportunities across the company’s target regions. You’ll be expected to work autonomously, while closely supporting the leadership team with insight, forecasts, and strategy.
Key responsibilities include:
Identifying, generating, and converting new business opportunities across Essex, Kent, London, Herts, and Cambridge
Creating and maintaining a strong, sustainable pipeline aligned with business strategy (risk, region, sector, project size, margin)
Bringing a personal network of clients, contacts, and key decision-makers
Leading the bid/tender process – ensuring clarity for bid support teams and overseeing quality submissions
Reporting regularly to directors on pipeline status, deal probabilities, and sector-specific forecasting
Supporting marketing activities to drive brand visibility and engagement
Promoting the business professionally across all platforms, including social media and industry events
Working in partnership with lead generation teams, but capable of independently creating opportunities
Involvement in budget planning and business development strategy with senior leadership
The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for someone with:
A background in Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contracting (Tier 2 preferred); experience with specialist contractors will also be considered
Proven success in a similar BDM role within construction
A ready-to-go network of clients and contacts
Experience across multiple sectors – ideally education, commercial, healthcare, etc.
Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking
Confidence to work independently, manage their own time, and deliver results
Excellent communication, networking, and deal-closing abilities
A proactive mindset and adaptable approach to winning work
What’s On Offer
Basic salary £70,000 – £80,000, depending on experience
