The Swansea Bay University Health Board Occupational Therapy Service offers a wealth of experience, diversity and progression. The post will allow the successful applicant the opportunity to work collaboratively within an integrated multi-disciplinary team. The role will involve working under the occupational therapists’ guidance to implement intervention programmes with service users within the service area. You will provide goal directed intervention and rehabilitation to patients in the setting.

You will be required to work closely with MDT colleagues and contribute to the development of a high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy service. You will have an opportunity to help shape and promote the service, providing you with a unique opportunity to engage in service development and change.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome

Main duties of the job

To be a fully engaged member of the Occupational Therapy Team providing a service within a defined area, supporting the therapists with clients who may have complex needs in a range of settings including; hospital community, patients homes, schools and outpatient settings.

To undertake intervention programmes with individual clients or groups, this may involve fitting and instruction on the use of adaptive equipment, the supervision of adaptive daily living skills and leading therapeutic groups.

Maintain clinical records and report accurately to others.

Carry out administrative duties in relation to clinical, service and departmental needs.

To participate in CPD and develop skills and knowledge through participation in developmental activities including completion of the Diploma of Occupational Therapy Support.

You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, the contract hours includes a 7-day shift pattern, with extended working hours covering 365days of the year.

Essential criteria

1. Quality Credit Framework qualification at level 3 eg NVQ or OCN related to Health & Social Care or prepared to work towards
2. Documented evidence of participation in training activities
3. Quality Credit Framework qualification at level 2 eg NVQ or OCN related to Health & Social Care

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria

4. Understanding of the role of occupational therapy
5. Relevant experience working within health, social or teaching setting
6. Awareness of Occupational Therapy equipment e.g. toilet equipment, manual handling equipment

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria

7. Ability to work single-handedly with individuals and/or groups
8. Effective written and oral communication skills
9. To carry out home visits, single handedly, to client’s homes to deliver and fit equipment as directed
10. Awareness of team dynamics and work effectively as part of a team
