At The Telegraph, we are looking for someone who will use their expertise in visual communication and data visualisation to engage our audience with the most important news topics and events, contributing to quality journalism with high graphic design standards. We seek someone whose passion for graphics allows them to combine creative exploration with pragmatic solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design and illustrate graphic components such as charts, diagrams, maps, and graphics with clarity and high standards.
2. Analyze and edit information to form compelling visual narratives, combining good typography and considered design practices to create engaging information graphics and data visualizations.
3. Contribute ideas and creative input into the production of visual journalism at The Telegraph.
4. Work within a seven-day rota, including late shifts and weekends.
5. Produce work for both print and digital platforms of The Telegraph.
6. Collaborate with journalists, researchers, editors, designers, and developers across the newsroom.
7. Help develop better work methods to establish greater consistency.
Key Skills
1. Proven ability to produce compelling and creative visual journalism.
2. A portfolio demonstrating the skills listed above.
3. Good understanding of core graphic design principles: color, geometry, typography, depth, imagery, and composition.
4. Proficiency with the latest graphics software: Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign (experience with After Effects and GIS software is a plus).
5. Interest in developing digital skills.
6. Ability to interpret briefs and handle research data effectively, including formatting in spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
7. Good communication and collaborative skills, with a proactive attitude.
8. Effective planning and time management, with the ability to take initiative.
9. An active interest in current affairs and journalism platforms.
