The Business Support Officer will be responsible for managing and delivering a range of projects on behalf of the Town Council, including grant applications, events and overseeing both ongoing and new initiatives. Working closely with the Town Clerk, councillors, officers, and external partners, the postholder will play a key role in ensuring that projects benefit the Town and its residents.
Key Responsibilities
Grants & Funding
* Identify and secure grants, funding opportunities, philanthropic trusts, sponsorships, and other financial support for the Council.
* Assess Council and community projects for funding eligibility.
* Prepare high-quality grant applications, including research and analysis to support submissions.
* Manage grant compliance, monitoring, reporting, and documentation.
* Ensure timely and best-practice delivery of funding-related activities, minimising risk.
* Participate in financial, accounting, and budgeting processes as required.
* Oversee the Council’s Community Infrastructure Spending.
* Support and service the Climate Change Working Group.
* Develop key policies and coordinate projects that enhance the town’s natural environment while addressing climate change and biodiversity conservation.
* Promote sustainable practices, protect local biodiversity, and engage the community in environmental initiatives.
Events & Health and Safety
* Work with the Communications Officer and Civic Officer to ensure the successful delivery of Council events and civic functions.
* Collaborate with event partners to carry out risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
* Provide guidance to event and function organisers regarding health and safety requirements.
* Attend events to oversee health and safety, traffic management, and public safety measures.
* Debriefs on event and project progress at relevant Council, committee, or sub-committee meetings.
Communications & Planning Support
* Assist in maintaining and updating the Council’s website, social media platforms, and external communications, when required.
* Provide cover for the Planning Committee, supporting meetings and associated work, when required.
General Duties and Responsibilities
* Administrative and Clerking duties for the Strategic Partnership and the Stratford Support Group.
* Contribute to the development and improvement of Town Council services.
* Comply with internal policies and external guidelines, including the Code of Conduct, data protection regulations, and health and safety policies.
* Provide administrative support, when required, to ensure the smooth functioning of the Town Council.
Additional Requirements
* Evening Meetings: The postholder will be required to attend some evening meetings, for which overtime will be paid.
* Weekend Work: The postholder will be expected to attend and manage events, for which overtime will be paid.
Other Duties
* Undertake any additional duties reasonably allocated by the Town Clerk in relation to Town Council activities.
