Job Description
College of Science & Engineering / School of Mathematics.
Full time - 35 hours per week.
Fixed term contract for 12 months.
The Opportunity:
The School of Mathematics is seeking to appoint a University Teacher with a focus on Statistics and Data Science. This is a fixed-term position for 12 months involving teaching across a range of our undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses.
The role will also include involvement in assessment of students, helping to develop courses and programmes, where this is appropriate, and teaching related administration, which could include providing academic support to students. There will be opportunities to take part in scholarship activities in our School.
The School takes career development seriously: we will mentor the post holder to develop key skills and experiences in teaching and learning and support participation in the Edinburgh Teaching Award, which leads to a Higher Education Academy Fellowship.
The post is available from 1st September 2026 and is fixed term for 12 months.

* A PhD in Statistics
* Experience and achievement in teaching within Higher Education reflected in a growing personal teaching portfolio
* Excellent written and oral communication skills in a range of contexts
* Good interpersonal and organisational skills
* Ability to plan and initiate activities and projects and develop self and others

The University of Edinburgh's School of Mathematics is one of the world’s leading mathematical sciences departments, home to world-class researchers and to an innovative educational environment for both undergraduates and postgraduates. The School teaches pure and applied Mathematics, operational research and statistics. We have approximately 1000 undergraduate students, around 210 MSc students, and our Graduate School has close to 160 PhD students.
Edinburgh is home to the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences, one of the UK’s two major conference centres in the mathematical sciences and operated jointly by the University with Heriot-Watt University. Over the past 30 years the centre has established a superb reputation for hosting workshops at the highest scientific level on all mathematical topics, attracting many of the best mathematicians in the world to the UK.
The School is located in the James Clerk Maxwell Building which is situated on the King\'s Buildings campus, approximately 3 kilometres south of the city centre.
