Becoming a Registered Building Inspector
We will consider individuals who are in the early stages of working towards RBI application and support you with the necessary requirements to become a Registered Building Inspector (Class 1, 2, 3) with the NHBC.
NHBC have a dedicated professional employee support team for the Building Safety Regulator framework and will provide the funding and training required.

What you’ll be doing
11. Manage own workload and allocated tasks to ensure relevant SLA’s are achieved.
12. Take responsibility for the assessment of building regulation applications for predominantly non-residential developments.
13. Negotiate with clients and their design teams/professional advisors, from initial design to completion, to ensure proposals are satisfactory in relation to building control in accordance with relevant regulations and NHBC Standards where appropriate.
14. Responsibility for the co-ordination of building control inspections, issue of Final Certificates, site approvals and resolving problems relating to Initial Notices/Final certification.
15. Manage the Building Regulation aspects by supporting inspection staff with the provision of expert advice, inspection of high risk/complex elements or features of building work and the identification / communication of key inspection stages and review of progress.
16. Keep up to date with NHBC’s IT systems.
17. Ensure compliance with NHBC and HSE requirements for personal safety and that of others.
18. Deliver technical presentations to both internal and external customers where required.
19. Assist with training, coaching and mentoring of others as required.
Contribute to the Operations Directorate Business plan
20. Assist in implementing business efficiencies and opportunities for growth of the business.
21. Take the lead with respect to tender preparation and approval of Surveyor quotes up to £5,000.
22. Contribute to the profitability of the Building Control Service by assisting in achieving Commercial BC income targets.
Promote NHBC’s business objectives and manage customer relationships
23. Promote objectives and contribute to securing business.
24. Provide guidance to builders, their consultants and NHBC on Building Regulation & NHBC Standards.
25. Proactively resolve customer complaints & manage conflict and disagreement by effective and appropriate escalation.
26. Assist with the representation of NHBC on appropriate external bodies and at seminars or industry work groups.
The ideal candidate will have
27. Extensive experience in the construction industry with relevant experience in Building Control
28. Experience of Building Control plan appraisal of commercial, retirement and other residential developments & associated non-residential uses
29. Experience in residential Warranty assessments
30. Experience in residential conversion developments for Building Control and Warranty assessments
31. Significant knowledge of construction l issues and relevant standards/legislation
32. In-depth knowledge of Building Act, Building Regulations, Approved Documents, British Standards and other associated guidance
33. Good communication skills both verbal and written with appropriate interpersonal and presentational skills
34. Able to work with a minimum of supervision in line with established policies and procedures
35. Positive attitude
Education and Qualifications
36. Professional institution membership with a Chartership body, i.e. CABE or CIOB, others will be considered.
37. Relevant accredited degree qualification, minimum of HND/HNC with industry experience.
