BrisDoc is an award winning, clinician-led, employee-owned social enterprise delivering NHS urgent and primary care across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. We provide compassionate, high-quality care to over one million patients, and we're looking for an exceptional Executive Medical Director to join our Board.
This is a pivotal Executive Director role, combining statutory clinical accountability with collaborative system leadership in an ambitious organisation with real pace and variety.
The opportunity
As Executive Medical Director, you'll be BrisDoc's senior clinical leader and the Board's accountable executive for patient safety, quality of care, clinical governance and professional clinical standards.
You'll work closely with the Chief Executive, Executive colleagues and Non-Executive Directors to ensure BrisDoc is clinically well-led, safe and resilient. You'll provide credible assurance to the Board, supported by robust data, insight and clear narrative. You'll also represent BrisDoc as a confident senior clinical voice across system partnerships.

What you'll lead
You'll provide organisation-wide clinical leadership, including:
Board-level accountability for patient safety, quality, clinical governance and professional standards
Clear, credible assurance to the Board, using data and narrative
Executive oversight of Patient Safety Incident Investigations (PSIIs), coroner's cases, significant complaints and clinical claims, including escalation and management of clinical risk
Strong systems for clinical learning, quality assurance and continuous improvement
Executive responsibility (with the Director of Nursing, Allied Health Professionals and Governance) for clinical aspects of regulatory compliance and inspection readiness, including Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements
Professional governance, including managing concerns relating to clinical staff and upholding standards and conduct
Acting as Caldicott Guardian (information governance accountability)
Clinical leadership across strategy, workforce, service development and digital transformation
System leadership, representing BrisDoc across BNSSG and the wider South West and beyond
A commitment to staying close to care through a clinical footprint within BrisDoc services (details to be agreed)
Who we're looking for
We're seeking a senior clinical leader with the credibility, judgement and executive maturity to operate effectively at Board level in a complex healthcare environment.
You will have:
Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration with a licence to practise
MRCGP or equivalent senior medical qualification enabling clinical participation within BrisDoc services
Significant senior clinical leadership experience at Director level (or equivalent)
Demonstrable leadership of clinical governance, patient safety and regulatory engagement
Experience providing assurance and constructive challenge at Board/Executive level
Strong understanding of NHS statutory and regulatory frameworks, including CQC
You will demonstrate:

What we can offer
Hours: 30–37.5 hours per week (to be agreed)
Salary: £140,000–£150,000 (FTE) per annum (dependent on experience)
