An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist to lead the Secondary Care antimicrobial pharmacy network in Wales, allowing the post holder to make a real difference to Antimicrobial Resistance in Wales.
The Healthcare Associated Infection, Antimicrobial Resistance & Prescribing (HARP) Programme, hosted by Public Health Wales, is responsible for surveillance of healthcare associated infections, antimicrobial resistance and usage of antimicrobials. The team provides expert advice to Health Boards and Welsh Government, supporting the reduction of the burden of infection and antimicrobial resistance across the NHS in Wales.
As an integral part of the Antimicrobial Pharmacy team, the post holder will help deliver the targets and ambitions set out in the UK AMR National Action Plan and Welsh Health Circulars, through leading and supporting antimicrobial stewardship in Secondary Care. The post holder will deliver these ambitions using a number of initiatives and interventions, including national / local audit and feedback; writing and implementing national antimicrobial prescribing guidelines; influencing Welsh Government targets and ambitions; influencing National Prescribing Indicators; supporting the education and training of all health care workers in antimicrobial stewardship, and engaging with the media, patients and the general public.
The Lead Antimicrobial Pharmacist – Secondary Care, will lead and enable improved antimicrobial stewardship in secondary care in Wales through the leadership and support of a network of Health Board based antimicrobial pharmacists. This network will support the delivery of set ambitions and targets in the UK AMR 5-year National Action Plans and the UK AMR 20-year strategy, to minimise the impact of antimicrobial use on the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance in Wales.
