Main duties of the job
This role will be working within the Emergency General Surgery (EGS) team at UHS as part of the Medicine for Older Persons (MOP) specialist team. As part of this role, you will be working alongside Medical and Surgical consultants along with ACPs, Nurse Specialists and resident doctors to support the management of Emergency General Surgical patients. This role is designed to bring specialist knowledge to an established team to better support the management of frail and older patients undergoing major emergency surgery or with complex surgical conditions. This will also be an opportunity for any successful candidate to gain valuable learning and insights into the surgical management of a wide variety of emergency conditions.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Undertake ward rounds, with the MOP consultant, of surgical patients
* Perform shared decision‑making conversations with patients and families
* Obtain collateral histories of patients
* Consult with inpatient and outpatient services to best support the care and discharge of patients
* Work closely with the MDT including therapy and social services
Successful Applicants Will Need To Have
* A strong knowledge of the medical management of frail and older persons
* Experience working with MOP specialist teams
* Able to undertake histories and assessment of frail and older persons
* Knowledge of patient pathways including managing complex discharges and rehabilitation of frail and older patients
Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
* Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
* Level 7 Post Graduate Certificate (min 60 credits), Master’s Degree within relevant speciality or equivalent knowledge to be assessed through evidence of relevant speciality training, experience or portfolio
* Specialist training / Qualification in area of practice
* Provide evidence of leading learning in practice
* Evidence of experience and completion of all band 6 competencies within relevant speciality
* Specialist clinical skills and experience within specialist area
* Evidence of change management, leadership and innovation
* Clinical experience at Band 6 or equivalent within relevant speciality
* Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
* Provide evidence of supporting / managing and supervision of a range of learnings in practice
Desirable criteria
* Counselling / advanced communication skills qualification / training
* Experience of nurse‑led care / clinics in own practice
* Registered as an independent prescriber
* Leadership Qualification / training
