The successful candidate will be based at Blackpool Teaching Hospital working within a dedicated Breast Care Unit and within the Trust’s Surgical Unit, comprising in‑patient and day‑case theatre and elective wards. The new appointee will join a team of two Breast surgeons to provide a comprehensive breast service for the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre population. Approximately 3,400 referrals are received per annum with an average of 280 cancers diagnosed.
There is a weekly Breast MDT meeting, which is attended by all core members of the MDT. The post holder will be employed by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and will have a designated desk in the Surgical office block, with full secretarial support.
The clinical commitments of this post include responsibility for undertaking elective breast surgery at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, performing a range of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast procedures, and maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of advances in the specialty.
Continuous professional development is supported: the Trust provides time and financial support for post‑graduate education, CME/CPD, and other learning activities. Personal objectives will be agreed with the clinical manager and will form part of individual job plans.
Associated Duties and Responsibilities
* Collaborate with colleagues in primary and secondary care to implement protocols for the management of patients.
* Keep up to date with developments in the specialty and consider the use of new, clinically justified techniques.
* Contribute to post‑graduate and continuing medical education; support CME/CDP requirements laid down by the Royal College of Surgeons.
* Meet personal objectives and make all reasonable efforts to achieve them during the respective year.
