Job Description: Sustainability Lead (On-Site, Kirkaldy)
Overview
Our client, a prestigious organisation with an international profile, is seeking a Sustainability Lead to take ownership of their environmental and sustainability strategy. This is a key role for someone with strong technical expertise in ISO standards, carbon footprinting (Scopes 1–3), and sustainability frameworks, who can manage systems, analyse data, and embed best practice across diverse operations.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving environmental performance, achieving certifications, and ensuring compliance with frameworks such as BREEAM and GHG Protocol, while also shaping long-term sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of the organisation's sustainability strategy.
* Manage carbon footprint reporting across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, setting and tracking reduction targets.
* Oversee compliance with ISO standards (ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 20121), coordinating audits and certifications.
* Manage BREEAM assessments for new builds and refurbishments, ensuring compliance throughout design and operation phases.
* Collect, analyse, and report on quantitative (energy, water, waste, emissions, resource use) and qualitative (stakeholder feedback, behavioural change) data.
* Maintain and optimise sustainability systems to ensure robust data collection, monitoring, and reporting.
* Provide training and guidance to staff and partners to embed sustainability culture across the organisation.
* Act as the primary contact for regulators, consultants, auditors, and external stakeholders.
* Prepare sustainability and ESG reports for senior leadership and external audiences.
* Stay up to date on emerging legislation, technologies, and industry trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* 5–8+ years' experience in sustainability.
* Strong technical knowledge of ISO standards related to environmental and energy management.
* Proven expertise in GHG accounting and reporting across Scope 1–3.
* Experience managing BREEAM or similar sustainability rating/assessment frameworks.
* Advanced skills in both quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.
* Strong project management ability, including budget control and delivery of sustainability initiatives.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and present findings at senior level.
* Strong understanding of UK/Scottish environmental legislation and compliance requirements.
Desirable Skills
* Experience in large estates, leisure, hospitality, or complex operational settings.
* Experience supporting sustainability in events or facilities management.
* Familiarity with wider sustainability/ESG reporting frameworks and tools.
