Willow House and Shepton House provide temporary accommodation for homeless adults in central Reading.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated person to join our team as a specialist support worker. You will lead the delivery of our Psychosocial programme of change, providing opportunities for our vulnerable clients to prepare for move-on and sustain their own independent tenancy. This includes life skills, building positive therapeutic relations with clients and deliver group work programme based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy principles, including a programme for clients with substance use challenges and service users with challenges with their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
You will deliver a high-quality programme which promotes harm reduction, client choice and control and ensures clients learn new skills, make positive life choices and achieve the best possible outcomes. You will work closely with the wider staff team and partner organisations with a compassionate trauma informed approach. You will be working closely with our Management Team and work as part of the manager’s on-call rota system.
As the successful candidate you will need to be able to demonstrate;
1. knowledge of the support needs of our homeless and vulnerable clients
2. a person-centred approach
3. a passion for supporting people to make positive changes to their lives
4. previous experience of supporting adults
5. skills and expertise in the area of substance misuse
6. experience of developing and delivering training programmes
7. excellent communication skills
8. good administrative and IT skills
9. The ability to work in close cooperation with colleagues and partners to ensure provision of multi-agency services
10. Ability to be in sympathy with the needs of the homeless and The Mission of The Salvation Army.
