Technical Author – Slaughterhouses and Animal By‑Products – UKBAT
Join the UK BAT team as a Technical Author and help shape national environmental standards for large slaughterhouses and animal‑by‑product installations.
Job Description
As a Technical Author you will be responsible for drafting BAT Conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups, and final documents suitable for publication as a UK‑wide environmental standard. You will also:
* Maintain specialist knowledge of the Slaughterhouse and Animal By‑Products industry.
* Apply process engineering, environmental issues, and UK legislation in your analysis.
* Critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Write clear, concise technical documents.
* Manage projects and drive completion of deliverables.
Experience and Skills
Applicants should have at least 5 years of relevant experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation in this sector.
* Expertise in the slaughterhouse and animal‑by‑products industry.
* Knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, including IED and Environmental Permitting Regulations.
* Ability to collect and analyse complex industrial data.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Relationship building and consensus‑building abilities.
* Project planning, prioritisation and organisation.
* Adaptability to challenges and flexibility in working methods.
* Respect for diversity and inclusion.
Work Conditions
Smart tools are used to limit travel, but some travel and overnight stays may be required. Flexible working arrangements, including job share, are supported. The role is full‑time, mid‑senior level and the contract length is up to 2 years from appointment.
