Job Description:
We are currently recruiting for a Construction Claims Technician in the Leicestershire area. This role offers a hybrid work pattern, a competitive salary, and other benefits.
Prior claims experience is not required but would be useful. If you have experience dealing with accounts payable, credit control, or completing work certification within the construction industry, this is a great opportunity to transfer those skills into a career within insurance.
The Construction Claims Technician is responsible for investigating, examining, negotiating, and settling credit insurance claims, primarily focusing on construction claims made by subcontractors and suppliers. Training will be provided for candidates with prior construction experience or knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
* Examine and assess claims submitted, including settlements within authority schedules and timescales.
* Set up, review, and pay claims using bespoke IT systems.
* Record and monitor insolvency dates related to claims.
* Assess opportunities to mitigate losses and communicate ongoing updates.
* Evaluate claims, applying judgment to uncertified applications and final accounts.
* Calculate reserves and input data into the claims system.
* Confirm insolvency events and record loss information.
* Liaise with insolvency practitioners and external stakeholders.
* Identify fraudulent claims.
* Attend creditors’ meetings, assist with proofs of debt, and follow up on dividends.
* Report large losses and communicate concerns to risk/underwriters.
* Handle general email and telephone queries.
* Maintain claims documentation electronically.
* Liaise with underwriters and advise policyholders on claims procedures and coverage.
* Manage client and broker relationships as needed.
* Seek continuous improvement in tasks and uphold professionalism.
* Undertake other duties as instructed by the Claims Manager.
Skills and Experience:
* Experience in the construction industry.
* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a confident telephone manner.
* Proficiency in Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications.
* Ability to assess complex issues and report clearly.
* Flexible, proactive, and a team player.
* Commercial awareness and initiative.
* Attention to detail and willingness to learn.
* Degree, BTEC, or professional qualification in a construction-related field.
* Accountancy or surveying experience within a construction company.
* Membership or working towards membership in ICM or CII.
* Experience in credit management, accounts receivable, or payable.
* Degree in an analytical subject (e.g., economics, law, history).
