Transport Planner – General Haulage
Location: Ford, West Sussex
Salary: £34,000 to 36,000 per year (dependant on experience)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00/6:00pm
On Call: Required (rota basis)
We are recruiting an experienced Transport Planner to manage the day to day planning of our general haulage operation.
This is a planning led role. You will be responsible for routing, fleet utilisation, driver liaison, and sourcing backloads to keep vehicles moving efficiently and profitably.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan daily and weekly vehicle routes
* Maximise fleet utilisation and source backloads
* Liaise with drivers and handle live operational changes
* Manage driver holidays, sickness, and agency cover
* Participate in an on call rotaProvide basic administrative support for vehicle maintenance and compliance
Requirements
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in transport planning (general haulage essential)
* Proven ability to optimise routes and vehicle usage
* Existing transport industry contacts preferred
* Calm under pressure and confident making decisions
* Working knowledge of transport systems and Microsoft Office
* Basic understanding of transport compliance
* Experience with European transport and/or events logistics is an advantage but not essential
