Teaching Assistant Location: Wirral & LiverpoolStart: Immediate & September opportunities availableHours: Full-timeContract: Long-term placementsPay: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

Teaching Personnel is partnering with a well-established trust of schools across the Wirral and Liverpool areas to recruit dedicated Teaching Assistants for a range of Alternative Provision, SEMH, specialist SEN and mainstream settings.

We have multiple long-term, full-time opportunities available across both Wirral and Liverpool, supporting pupils who require additional assistance accessing education due to social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs or special educational needs (SEN). Positions are available for both immediate starts and the upcoming September academic year.

Working closely with teachers and specialist staff, you will support pupils with needs such as SEMH, ASD, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours, and moderate to complex learning difficulties. Many settings offer smaller class sizes and a highly personalised approach, allowing you to make a real impact on pupil engagement, confidence, and progress.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
* Support pupils with SEMH, SEN, ASD, ADHD, and behavioural challenges
* Assist teachers in delivering engaging, accessible lessons
* Implement behaviour strategies and individual learning plans
* Encourage pupil confidence, independence, and emotional regulation
* Work effectively with students displaying challenging behaviour
* Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
* Support personal care where required
* Maintain high standards of safeguarding, behaviour management, and health & safety
* Contribute to a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment

About You

You may have experience working with children or young people in education, alternative provision, youth work, care, or support settings. Above all, you will be patient, resilient, empathetic, and committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

You will be confident building strong relationships, remaining calm under pressure, and effectively supporting pupils’ behavioural and emotional needs.

Essential Requirements

* Experience working with children or young people (education, care, or support roles)
* Experience within a UK school or education setting
* A proactive, patient, and flexible approach
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Ability to adapt to specialist school environments
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
* Right to work in the UK
* GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent)

Desirable

* NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Teaching Assistant, Childcare, or similar
* Experience in SEMH or Alternative Provision settings
* Team Teach or behaviour management training
* Safeguarding training and strong understanding of child protection
