Overview
An extraordinary job. You’ll be part of a team supporting the day-to-day running of a busy prison as an Operational Support Grade (OSG). The role involves a mix of desk duties and active tasks such as security and searches at the gate, managing deliveries, supervising visitors, and monitoring phone calls and CCTV. It is a varied job that can include lifting, carrying and walking to escort vehicles across the prison grounds. The salary listed is £31,664 and the role is with His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMP Belmarsh Driver).
Travel to work: Some prison establishments are in rural locations with limited public transport. A driving licence and own transport are beneficial but not essential unless specified. Shift start and finish times are fixed and you are responsible for getting to and from your place of work on time. Transport options should be carefully considered in relation to vacancy location. Applicants must hold a full, valid UK driving licence which must include the D1 vehicle category to drive vehicles with up to 16 passenger seats, a maximum length of 8 metres, and a trailer up to 750kg.
Responsibilities

* Engage in a mix of desk duties and physical tasks, including lifting, carrying and walking to escort vehicles across prison grounds.
* Work varying shifts, including weekends and nights, to keep operations running smoothly.
Qualifications and Skills
* No formal qualifications are required to start; strong communication and the ability to stay calm under pressure are valuable.
* Good judgement, common sense, and being a team player are important traits.
* Interaction with prisoners is limited and depends on the prison; there may be occasional interactions.
