Randstad are recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer for a client based in Bristol. They are a rapidly growing company that specialises in designing and manufacturing a variety of high pressure hydraulic products for the Automotive and Aerospace industries.
Essential requirements
1. Degree level education in Mechanical Engineering or closely related subject
2. At least 5 years of experience in a mechanical design role
3. Experience of design processes and engineering principles
4. Understanding of metallurgy and material science
5. Understanding of machining processes and their relevance in mechanical design
6. Experience with CAD and producing technical drawings
7. Experience using FEA tools
8. Understanding of wider system technology including electronics, software and control, and its impact on mechanical design
9. High levels of personal accountability and ownership, to effectively deliver on challenging and ambitious targets
10. Strong presentation (both of technical solutions and data) and reporting skills
11. Ability to focus on detail to fully understand issues and drive improvement
12. Experience leading other mechanical engineers within a project
Beneficial requirements
13. Experience working to Automotive, Aerospace or Marine certification standards
14. Experience of testing in a production environment
15. Experience using CFD tools
16. Experience with hydraulic machines e.g. Servo valves, pumps, actuators etc.
17. Experience designing for additive manufacturing processes
18. Experience with designing electric motors
Key responsibilities
19. Design and analysis of products to fit customer applications
20. Management of manufacturing documentation, including CAD, drawings, bill of materials and AM build files
21. Finding and communicating with suppliers for prototype manufacture
22. Communication with key stakeholders both internal and external
23. Providing design support throughout manufacture, assembly, testing and new product introduction
24. Where required provide the above capability to support other projects, such as suspension, brake by wire and flight controls
25. Mentoring and technical direction on specific projects to more junior engineers
26. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver world leading products
This is a full time permanent position with a salary of £45,000-£55,000 depending on experience, flexible start and finish times and a 9 day working fortnight, so you would have every other Friday off as well.
The role is fully on site and will predominantly be based at the head office in Central Bristol.
