SEN Learning Support Assistant (ASD Specialist) – Stockton-on-Tees

Humly is working closely with a dedicated primary SEN provision in Stockton that specialises in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their expert team and help create an environment where every child can thrive.
The Role
As an SEN LSA, you will play a vital role in providing specialised 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD and associated communication or sensory needs. Working within a supportive primary setting, you’ll implement tailored learning plans that prioritise both academic progress and emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities
* Specialised Support: Deliver 1:1 interventions using ASD-specific strategies such as PECS, TEACCH, or Makaton.
* Communication & Interaction: Help pupils develop social skills and support their unique communication methods.
* Sensory Management: Recognise sensory triggers and use "sensory breaks" or calming strategies to help pupils remain regulated.
* Individualised Learning: Assist in the delivery of EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.
* Behavioural Support: Promote positive behaviour and use de-escalation techniques to support pupils during moments of distress.
* Collaboration: Work effectively with teachers, SENCOs, and therapy teams to support pupil progress.
* Safeguarding: Uphold safeguarding procedures and prioritise the wellbeing of all pupils at all times.
Requirements
* Experience: Previous experience working with children with ASD in a school or educational setting.
* Skills: A strong understanding of sensory processing needs and a proactive approach to learning support.
* Attributes: High levels of patience, resilience, and a genuine passion for SEN education.
* Communication: Strong teamwork skills and the ability to build rapport with neurodivergent learners.
* Compliance: Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.
