Overview
Housing Support Officer role at Mears Group PLC. Salary up to £28,917 per annum. Full time – Permanent, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Location: Sheffield (with additional regions in UK work pattern). Includes company vehicle and fuel card or £3,500 company car allowance where applicable.
We provide temporary accommodation to asylum seekers while their claims are being assessed in three regions: Northeast, Yorkshire and Humber, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. We partner with central and local government, registered providers, tenants, landlords and investors to address homelessness and increase social and affordable housing, including housing for people with care needs.
This role focuses on supporting asylum seekers through their right to work and asylum application process with the Home Office. The role offers daily variety, challenges, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities
* Support service users at various stages of their asylum application process, including safeguarding and welfare issues.
* Provide practical and emotional support; monitor wellbeing and support needs.
* Maintain accurate records for Home Office audit purposes and ensure professional, boundary-respecting service delivery.
Role Criteria / Qualifications
* Experience of working with vulnerable and diverse client groups
* Experience and understanding of safeguarding
* Ability to identify individuals and family needs and determine required support packages to maintain independence
* Experience working with mental health or challenging behaviour
* Effective communication with colleagues, local authorities, and service users
* Experience with record keeping and risk assessments
* Ability to work on own initiative; resilient; supportive, trustworthy, empathetic and a good listener
* Flexible and willing to travel
* Full UK driving licence
All roles require entitlement to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not offered. Background, identity and security checks are required before commencement, including BPSS checks and providing relevant identification (Proof of Address, References, valid passport, and residence history for the last 5 years).

Required Qualifications
Accurate record-keeping, customer service, liaison with internal/external stakeholders, risk management, and service improvement.
