Offer description

We’re building a platform that lets us ship and operate multiple children’s learning apps without rebuilding the same things every time. Accounts, content publishing, compliance, progression - it’s all shared infrastructure, built once and built properly.
The apps are interactive, creative, and built for children - think storytelling, arts and crafts, music, exploration. You’ll be the person making them real, working across web (Vue.js, TypeScript) and mobile, building the things that children and parents actually see, touch, and play with. The platform also hosts game content alongside these apps, and over time the role will grow into that space too.
The stack is Vue.js and TypeScript on the web side, with Unity (C#) for native mobile apps, a .NET 10 backend, and Postgres underneath. We use code generation heavily to keep the structural plumbing clean, so you can focus on building experiences rather than wiring up boilerplate.
We’re a small team, early stage, and this hire matters a lot to us.
*Who this role is for*
You’re someone who builds things people interact with. You’ve got solid experience with frontend web development or mobile apps - ideally both - and you care about how things feel, not just whether they function.
And if you’ve got a thing for game development - even better. Maybe you’ve been quietly making games in your spare time. Maybe you went to a game jam, loved it, but ended up in enterprise because that’s where the jobs were. Maybe you’ve got a half-finished Unity project on your hard drive that you’re genuinely proud of. We want to hear about that. We know how hard it is to break into game dev without industry experience - and this role sits right next to it. The platform is full of game content, and as it grows, so does the game development work. This is a real path in.
Right now, you’re probably in a role that’s fine but not exciting. You’re capable of more than your current position lets you show. You want somewhere that’ll actually use your range - not just slot you into one narrow lane and leave you there.
You don’t need to know everything we use. We care far more about how you think about building interactive experiences than whether you’ve ticked every box on our stack. If you hear “children’s apps”, “interactive storytelling”, or “cross-platform UI” and your reaction is curiosity rather than anxiety, you’ll do well here.
*What you'll actually be doing*
Day to day, you’ll be building the apps and interactive experiences that sit on top of our platform. Early on, that means storytelling apps, arts and crafts tools, creative activities - engaging, polished experiences designed for children. The platform also hosts a growing catalogue of game content, and your work will sit alongside and interact with it. As that catalogue expands, so does the scope of what you’ll be building.
On the web side, you’ll be working in Vue.js and TypeScript - building the apps themselves, parent-facing dashboards, content browsers, and companion web experiences. There’ll also be mobile development using Unity, building native versions of apps for tablets and phones.
You’ll own the areas you work on. Not in a “thrown in the deep end” way - in a “this is yours, you’re trusted to make good calls, and you’ve got experienced people to talk things through with” way.
As the platform grows, your influence grows with it. The patterns you establish become the patterns the apps run on. The interactive components you build get reused across titles. For the right person, this naturally becomes a lead role as we build the team out - and that progression is based on your impact, not time served.
*What we're looking for*
* Strong frontend web development skills - Vue.js and TypeScript preferred, but React or Angular experience transfers well
* Experience with or genuine enthusiasm for mobile app development (native, cross-platform, or Unity)
* An eye for interaction design - you think about how things feel to use, not just how they look
* Comfort working across the stack - you don’t need to be a backend expert, but you’re not afraid of an API endpoint
* The ability to work within existing structure and understand why it’s there before changing it
* A collaborative mindset - you’re joining a small team, not filling a seat
*Bonus points (genuinely optional)*
* Game development interest - hobby projects, game jams, personal experiments, anything - we’re a way to get that on your CV for real
* Experience with Unity (C#) or other game engines
* Familiarity with animation, procedural content, or audio systems
* Interest in building for children - accessibility, age-appropriate design, engagement without manipulation
* Any experience with code generation or working within generated codebases
*What we're offering*
* £45,000-£55,000 depending on experience
* Equity options - early-stage, meaningful, not an afterthought
* Fully remote (UK-based)
* Flexible working hours
* Direct mentorship from the CTO
* A genuine path to a lead role as the team grows
* Real exposure to game development as the platform grows - if you’ve been looking for a way into gamedev, this is a genuine path
* The chance to shape a platform from the ground up, not just maintain someone else’s decisions
*How to apply*
Apply through Indeed. If you include a cover letter, we’d love to hear:
* Something you’ve built or worked on that you’re proud of - an app, a website, a side project, a game - anything interactive
* How you think about building things people actually enjoy using
* Links to any projects, repos, or game jam entries you’re happy to share (not required, but always appreciated)
It doesn’t need to be polished. We’re interested in how you think, not how you format.
We’re not working with agencies for this role - direct applications only.
