One Stop - Shift Leader
One Stop Stores Ltd, a subsidiary of Tesco, is seeking a Shift Leader to manage daily store operations in a fast‑paced retail environment.
About the role
You will run duty shifts, coordinate a team, maintain a clean and well‑presented store, and ensure safety and excellent customer service. You will also identify opportunities to improve service, manage inventory, and support the Store Manager.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community.
* Open/close the store, complete duty cover, ensuring all decisions support customers, colleagues and safety.
* Serve as the go‑to person for day‑to‑day operational queries in the absence of the Store Manager.
* Support the Store Manager with seasonal, community and charity events.
* Maintain store cleanliness, tidiness and presentation.
* Prioritise replenishment of key products.
* Ensure point‑of‑sale and shelf‑edge labels are accurate.
* Address over‑charges immediately and prevent recurrence.
* Manage queues to deliver a smooth shopping experience.
* Schedule breaks and align staffing with trade patterns.
* Be accountable for health and safety routines.
* Communicate effectively with the team and keep them informed.
* Innovate operations and share ideas with the Store Manager.
* Resolve customer queries, leave consumers with a smile.
* Recognise and celebrate excellent colleague service.
* Remove obstacles to outstanding service.
* Escalate colleague queries to the Store Manager where appropriate.
* Staff the store appropriately, manage absences and arrange cover.
* Act as a recognised keyholder; attend alarm call‑outs as required.
* Distribute internal communications promptly.
* Assist with absence management and return‑to‑work interviews.
* Build relationships with the Area Manager and People Partner for timely issue escalation.
If this store has a Post Office Local, you will also manage day‑to‑day post office operations and must pass a background check.
