Early Years Practitioner (Fixed Term until 07/06/2027)
Location: The Spinney Lane Nursery School
Salary: £30,188 - £34,452 (pro‑rata for sessional)
Hours: 36 per week over 39 weeks sessionally
Working pattern: Monday – Thursday 8:00‑16:15, Friday 8:00‑13:00
The Spinney Lane Nursery, located in the grounds of Gilmerton Primary School, provides early learning and childcare for children aged 3‑5. The nursery has implemented 1,140 term‑time hours since August 2018. From August 2020 the nursery runs a full‑time, term‑time only placement for approximately 60 children. Children are in from 8:30‑15:00 Monday to Thursday and 8:30‑12:30 Friday.
Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, monitor and review effective early years policies, procedures and practice in a climate that promotes equity and excellence.
* Collaborate with the nursery team and other stakeholders to support children’s learning.
* Use floor books for planning and lead initiatives such as loose‑parts play and outdoor learning.
* Apply the Froebel or Frobelian approach where appropriate.
Qualifications and experience (desirable):
* Experience of using floor books for planning.
* Experience leading and managing initiatives within an early years setting, including loose‑parts play and outdoor learning.
* Froebel trained or experience with the Frobelian approach.
This post is regulated work involving children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If you have spent a continuous period of three or more months abroad in the last five years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. An unconditional offer will be subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks.
