General Description:
This position will supervise a grounds crew and assign work to provide a clean, well-maintained facility in support of the teaching and administrative functions of the campus and to make the campus well-groomed and as safe and aesthetically pleasing as possible. If needed, campus may vary.
Duties and Tasks:
1. Campus land is seeded, mulched and mowed and wooded areas are maintained.
2. Trash, ice and snow are removed promptly and thoroughly.
3. Lead the grounds related work including small project work.
4. Produce and submit reports related to scheduling, ongoing projects and equipment status, supervise grounds staff, community service workers, and contractors.
5. Notifies Facility Manager of all actions & ensures that all projects/tasks are completed
6. Oversee grounds contractor’s work.
7. Responds to the needs of the Facility Manager & Campus community without hesitation and completes requests in a timely manner.
8. Practices standard horticultural principles & practices at all times. This includes ensures that the land is maintained at the highest level by using good horticultural principles and practices.
9. Notifies Facility Manager of all actions & ensures that all projects/tasks are completed
10. Repair and perform preventative maintenance on grounds equipment.
11. Support emergency operations as recalled by supervisor.
12. Perform grounds maintenance and landscaping.
13. May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
KSAs:
14. Use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
15. Ability to operate, repair and provide preventative maintenance on grounds equipment.
16. Knowledgeable about landscaping, plant and trees and related issues and grounds practices.
17. Ability to plan and program assigned projects and to organize and lead the work of assigned grounds personnel.
18. Computer literate in Microsoft Office
19. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
20. Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis
Minimum Work Experience:
21. Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
22. Experience in operating and maintenance of groundwork vehicles and equipment.
23. Experience working in Horticulture or Landscaping.
24. Experience in landscape management.
25. Experience working with contractors.
Additional Considerations:
26. Hold a current Virginia license to spray weed killer license.
