Overview
Intelligence Research Officer to join the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU) in a dynamic part of the business. The Environment Agency aims to be an intelligence-led organisation; this role helps manage intelligence to assess and manage threat, risk and harm. Environmental crime is a strategic priority, attracting high-profile attention from public, media and stakeholders. This role supports investigations and helps prioritise and drive interventions to remove unlawful operators from the waste regimes. You will pro-actively develop and access intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making and provide actionable intelligence products for customers. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and Sheffield may be required occasionally.
You will be part of the Intelligence & Partnerships department, working with intelligence professionals and providing intelligence products and assessments to support colleagues.
Responsibilities
* Pro-actively develop and access intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making and provide actionable intelligence products for customers.
* Support investigations and help prioritise and drive forward interventions to remove unlawful operators from the waste regimes.
* Respond to incidents as part of an incident role; be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident (may attract additional payment; full training and alternative working arrangements available).
* Collaborate with the Environment Agency’s enforcement community across 14 geographical areas and national services.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience collecting and evaluating data from a wide variety of sources to produce or inform intelligence products; ability to interrogate IT systems and databases; enthusiasm and curiosity for finding information.
* Good communication skills with the ability to listen and transmit information effectively; ability to represent the Environment Agency professionally with partners.
* Ability to use standard IT packages, retrieve information accurately, work well in a team, and be adaptable to changing tasks.
* Experience in gathering detailed information from multiple sources to inform a decision.
* Willingness to flex between tasks and provide administrative support as needed.
