Here at Linford Aircrete, we have a great opportunity for a Yard Leading Hand Operative.
Working as part of the site production team, you will focus on delivering and leading exceptional SHE standards and meeting financial and operational targets. The Lead Operative is responsible for the safe operation of the plant, ensuring daily tasks are completed, including site housekeeping, basic maintenance, and the safe and efficient operation of mobile and fixed plant. The Leading Hand acts as a shift leader, coordinating labor, training, and development of the shift team. Flexibility and building good working relationships are essential.
Responsibilities
1. Labour utilization within budgeted controls.
2. Training and development of team.
3. Supervise team and manage contractors and haulier engagement.
4. Ensure safe load optimization.
5. Prioritize planned works.
6. Ensure adherence to Health & Safety rules and deliver safety and operational performance targets, supporting a culture of safety best practices by setting a personal example.
7. Comply with all Tarmac/CRH Policies & Procedures.
8. Support continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental performance standards.
9. Support continuous improvement of process, plant, and production.
10. Complete operator preventative maintenance tasks effectively.
11. Balance operation and housekeeping tasks.
12. Maintain mobile plant cleanliness standards.
13. Ensure daily compliance checks and standards.
14. Build working relationships with production and maintenance personnel.
15. Ensure high-quality products are efficiently produced.
16. Complete and record site inspections.
17. Read, understand, and sign method statements and risk assessments for all activities.
18. Participate in daily and weekly safety briefings.
19. Identify SHE improvement opportunities.
20. Comply with planning and operating restrictions (site boundaries, noise, dust, hours, etc.).
21. Accurately record daily KPIs and work with the team to meet targets.
22. Identify and implement continuous improvement and best practices.
23. Manage daily plant operations according to SOPs.
24. Coordinate maintenance activities with the maintenance team/contractors.
25. Liaise with supervisors regarding delivery and quality issues, managing complaints.
26. Ensure product quality and delivery to site.
27. Communicate effectively about plant breakdowns.
28. Participate in root cause analysis for quality, safety, and mechanical issues.
29. Record stock handling daily inputs for month-end data.
30. Complete daily/weekly reports, inspections, and environmental logs.
31. Maintain production sheets and machine logs.
32. Develop manufacturing process experience and heavy plant knowledge.
33. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
34. Familiar with ISO 9001, 14001, 18001, 50001 standards.
Skills
1. Good oral and written English.
2. Basic mathematical skills.
3. B1/B2 FLT license required.
