Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Finance Manager to lead day‑to‑day financial operations across the charity and trading company. The role will support a new Finance Director and ongoing finance system change.
Responsibilities
* Produce timely monthly management accounts for the charity and trading subsidiary.
* Lead year‑end processes and support the preparation of statutory accounts in line with the Charity SORP (FRS 102).
* Liaise with external auditors to ensure an efficient audit cycle.
* Maintain robust balance‑sheet reconciliations and cash‑flow monitoring.
* Oversee restricted and designated funds accounting and financial reports for trustees and senior leadership.
* Coordinate and support the annual departmental budgeting process and long‑term financial planning.
* Provide analysis and advice on complex financial information to support decision‑making by budget holders and managers.
* Oversee payroll processing, ensuring compliance with HMRC, pension regulations, auto‑enrolment and internal controls.
* Support accurate administration of pension schemes and employee benefits through payroll.
* Maintain and update financial policies, procedures and internal controls; provide guidance to other teams.
* Lead on VAT reporting, submissions and partial‑exemption calculations, and support Gift Aid claims.
* Responsible for internal audits of retail and other areas as required.
* Lead, motivate and develop the finance team, ensuring training, development and clear performance objectives.
* Foster a collaborative, supportive, and values‑driven culture and work cross‑functionally with groups such as Data Care, Forum and Job Evaluation.
* Champion finance system improvements, digital enhancements and ensure timely accurate data for organisational decision‑making.
Qualifications
* Essential
o Qualified or part‑qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
o Minimum 3 years of financial management experience, ideally within the charity sector.
o Minimum 5 years of accounting experience with strong technical accounting, budgeting and control knowledge.
o Understanding of payroll accounting and experience overseeing payroll processing.
o Experience managing medium‑sized accounting packages (e.g., Sage Line 200C).
o Experience with Charity SORP and trading subsidiaries, including VAT, Gift Aid and charity taxation.
o Line‑management experience, including running a finance department.
* Desirable
o Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with other Microsoft Office applications.
o Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
o Proficiency with finance systems in medium‑sized organisations and knowledge of Sage 200C.
o Ability to solve problems, innovate and take initiative.
