Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within the Blood Sciences Department at Scunthorpe General Hospital for a Band 7 Advanced practitioner (Haematology).
The successful candidate will be expected to hold FIBMS, equivalent MSc or IBMS HSD, although candidates nearing completion of the above or
with extensive experience are invited to apply.

The Path Links Pathology network receives work from the whole of Lincolnshire. Path Links encompasses Scunthorpe, Goole, Lincoln, Boston, Grimsby and Grantham Hospitals. Scunthorpe is a busy, fast-paced working environment, with excellent training opportunities. We are a large, friendly and welcoming team

Main duties of the job

You will be required to have good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure. Previous experience of staff training is essential as
is experience of UKAS ISO:15189. The successful candidate will work in a busy blood sciences laboratory supporting the blood sciences manager with the day to day management of Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood transfusion. Experience of antenatal screening is desirable, ideally within haemoglobinopathy screening.

Person specification

Qualifications & Experience

Essential criteria

1. Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (FIBMS), Masters degree, Higher Specialist Diploma or equivalent relevant experience.
2. State registration with Health Profession Council
3. Minimum 3 years experience at Band 6/7

Desirable criteria

4. Management qualification
5. Experience of Haemoglobinopathy reporting / Antenatal screening

Occupational experience

Essential criteria

6. Evidence of managing a team of staff

Desirable criteria

7. Up to date CPD activity
8. Evidence of scientific and technical presentation
9. Evidence of method evaluation / writing SOP's
