Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled and enthusiastic Gastroenterologist to join the William Harvey Hospital team at Ashford. The successful candidate will contribute to and develop further Trust‑wide services, including ERCP, Hepatology, IBD and a complex polyp service, and may help create new services such as GI physiology and EUS in collaboration with colleagues across the Trust.
Team Structure
The gastroenterology team is supported by two IBD nurses, a hepatology nurse and UGI STT nurses, all of whom support the UGI cancer pathway. The Trust‑wide IBD Multidisciplinary Team (MDM) meets fortnightly with histopathology, radiology and colorectal involvement. The Hepatology MDM runs weekly in partnership with a Kings hepatologist. The Trust‑wide UGIMDM is led by a gastroenterologist and is supported by Guy’s and St. Thomas’ (luminal UGI cancer) and King’s (HPB).
Responsibilities
* Provide diagnosis, management, and therapeutic care for patients with gastro‑enterological illnesses in inpatient and outpatient settings.
* Support the site‑based GI bleed rota and a 1:8 gastroenterology ward week, including in‑reach to emergency pathways.
* Provide two on‑site OPD clinics per week and perform two general endoscopy lists plus a dedicated specialist interest session.
* Participate in the Trust‑wide multidisciplinary teams (GI MDM, IBD MDM, Hepatology MDM) and contribute to the development of specialist services.
* Support and contribute to the development and expansion of services such as ERCP, complex polyp removal, GI physiology and EUS.
