Job Overview
This new appointment is part of a plan to improve elective waiting times for orthopaedic patients, including lower limb arthroplasty. The post holder will be responsible for independent trauma clinics and theatre lists, and will also manage pre‑operative assessment, liaison with anaesthetic staff, post‑operative care, and peri‑operative decision‑making. The role includes running independent elective and trauma operating lists and clinics, attending departmental MDT meetings, and acting as a consultant for trauma clinics and theatres when required.
Responsibilities
* Deliver quality trauma and elective care and an efficient service, continually improving practice.
* Enhance and develop the T&O service.
* Strengthen links with GP’s and neighbouring Trusts.
* Meet NHFD targets for best practice care in Fractured Neck of Femur patients.
* Help drive down elective waiting lists and contribute to the new elective arthroplasty hub.
* Initiate and take part in regular clinical audit.
* Maintain an active role in research.
* Support the organisational aims of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, contributing to management and financial strategies.
Qualifications
* Qualifying Degree.
* MRCS/FRCS.
* ATLS or equivalent.
* Appropriate UK professional registration.
Experience
* 6 years of T&O practice and 12 years since primary medical qualification.
* Independent practice with lower limb arthroplasty.
* Autonomous decision‑making in trauma and elective clinics.
* Independent practice with a variety of trauma cases.
* Ability to recognise when to seek escalation or support.
* Capability to lead MDT meetings if required.
* Experience managing virtual fracture clinics.
Teaching
* Trained as educational/clinical supervisor.
* Experience in research and audit.
